How Quiet Hours works
Quiet Hours lets one of your nothanumber lines go quiet for incoming calls and texts, so it won't ring or buzz during times you'd rather not be disturbed. There are two ways to do it: Do Not Disturb (an instant on/off switch) and Curfew (a repeating daily schedule, like every night 10pm-7am). It's free.
Do Not Disturb vs Curfew - what's the difference?
They solve the same problem in two ways:
- Do Not Disturb is instant - flip it on and that number goes quiet straight away, and stays quiet until you turn it off. Handy for a meeting, a film or a nap.
- Curfew is a schedule that repeats on its own - you pick a start time, an end time and which days, and the number goes quiet during that window automatically. Set 10pm-7am once and your evenings look after themselves.
You can use either, or both, and each of your numbers has its own settings - so you could keep a work line quiet overnight while a personal one stays fully active.
What happens to calls and texts when a number is quiet?
Your phone simply won't ring or buzz for that number, and you'll still see what came in afterwards:
- Calls go straight to voicemail (so the caller can leave a message) or hear a short "not available" message - that's your choice in the settings. You'll still see it as a missed call in the app afterwards.
- Texts still arrive and appear in your Messages as normal - the app just holds back the notification so your phone stays quiet. They're waiting for you when you next open the app.
To the person calling or texting, nothing looks different - it's just like an ordinary missed call, so they're never told you've silenced them.
Does it affect your outgoing calls?
No. Quiet Hours only ever affects what's coming in. You can always make calls and send texts as normal, whenever you like.
Does Quiet Hours affect emergency calls?
No. Emergency calls (999 and 112) are never affected by Quiet Hours - they are outgoing calls and always work. (nothanumber is internet-based, so it's still wise to keep a backup way to reach the emergency services.)
