How nothanumber works
nothanumber gives you a second UK number - mobile or landline - that lives in an app on the phone you already own. You make and receive calls and texts from it just like a normal number, but it's a separate line, so your personal number stays private. No second SIM, no second handset.
How do you get your number?
You choose the country and the type of number, and one is assigned to you from what's available - most people are set up in under a minute. From then on your second line lives alongside your personal one in the same app, and you switch between them without carrying anything extra.
Making and receiving calls and texts
You can make and receive voice calls and SMS from your nothanumber, with call history, contacts and conversation search built in. Calls support the things you'd expect - hold, mute, speaker, Bluetooth - and hook into your phone's normal call screen. It all works over Wi-Fi or mobile data.
Your number, your privacy
When you call or text from your nothanumber, the other person sees that number - never your personal mobile. That's the whole point: hand out your nothanumber when you sell online, sign up to something, or meet someone new, and keep your real number to yourself.
Voicemail, quiet hours and call forwarding
- Voicemail - if you don't pick up, callers can leave a message you play back in the app. Receiving and listening are free.
- Quiet Hours - make a number go quiet on demand (Do Not Disturb) or on a repeating schedule (Curfew, e.g. 10pm-7am), so it won't ring out of hours. It's free, and it only affects incoming calls and texts - you can always call out.
- Call forwarding - send calls on to another phone when you can't answer in the app, so you never miss an important one. It's an optional paid add-on (see pricing); voicemail and Quiet Hours are free.
One wallet, pay as you go
Everything runs off a single balance - the wallet. You top it up, and calls, texts and your number's small monthly rental come out of it as you go. You always see the rate before anything that costs money, so there are no surprises. See pricing for the detail.

Do I need a second phone or a new SIM?
No. nothanumber works on the phone you already have, through the app. Your number runs over the internet (Wi-Fi or mobile data), so there's nothing to insert and no second handset to carry.
Does it work over Wi-Fi?
Yes. Calls and texts work over Wi-Fi or mobile data. A working internet connection is needed, because the service is internet-based.
Can I have more than one number?
Yes. You can hold several numbers on one account, each billed independently, and manage them all in one place.
